For Such a Time As This

The annual Emerge Conference is here again.

Every year, this is the one event that will get all the young people in my church all excited & hyped up. Not only will there be super exuberant praise & worship (definitely not for the faint hearted), exciting competitions represented by the various school clusters and zones, Pastor Kong will also bring forth messages that will transform lives and mindsets. Although it's primarily a conference for the youths to inspire them to bring the fire of God into their campuses, schools and institutions, the adults can't help but get influenced by the excitment that's in the air. What's more, night sessions are open for everyone to attend, so I believe even the adults can't wait to get to church over the next few days.

The one phrase constantly mentioned during the Emerge Conference is that we have been created & called 'for such a time as this'. Many of us grew up asking ourselves why we are born into a particular family, what am I doing here on earth and why am I here at this time? It's the one issue that almost every teenager will think about because it questions the very reason of our existence.

But yet, we really have no hand in this because quite frankly, God did not ask for our opinions when He planned and created us. It was all up to Him to decide when and where we are going to be born and in which generation we will be thriving in. But, why didn't God put you in the generation of Abraham, Moses or even Jesus? Why didn't God place you in the stone age, victorian age or even the ages of the dinosaurs?

I read a book somewhere and the pastor who wrote the book brought out an assumed but very valid point. God probably looked into time and saw this period of time where the hearts of man will be tested as great tests and tribulations abound on earth. He probably knew it was going to be a challenging time where gross darkness will steal away the hearts of many and turn them away from Jesus. And He decided we were suitable to be placed there.

We're living in exciting times. And possibly the generation that will eyewitness the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. If God saw us and knew that we can make a difference in this generation, let's really believe in that with all our hearts. And real believing means that we are confident that God has already put in us all the abilities, talents, endurance, joy, peace and everything required so that we can fulfill our destiny for such a time as this.

This is no accident. You and I have been divinely placed in this point in time because we have something to do.

And while many people choose to live in peace for their whole life, not wanting to be involved in anything too spectacular, I believe that God's ordained people belong to the group who's dying to do something great. Remember that we all need to account to God one day for what He has given to us and what we have done with it. The question is whether we can stand boldly before God and say that we have done what we have been called to do during the times that we have lived in.

What is that you sense a prompting in your heart that God wants you to do? Stop procrastinating and worrying and start doing! Is it to take a step of faith to rise up to be a cell group leader? Is it to be more committed in your ministry? Is it to be a better helper to your pastor and leader? Is it to enrol into bible school? Is it to reach out to that particular friend? Is it to say sorry to a family member? Whatever it is, do it today. Because you have been called for such a time as this.

"I am going to raise up a people who will not compromise my Word- a people with My Spirit, anointing and joy to go forth in those days and usher in the greatest move of My Spirit that the world has ever seen. I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh and raise up a glorious Church without spot or wrinkle." Eph 5:27
