Don't Major on the Minor..
The devil is very tricky and clever. He knows he cannot change the truth, so he tries to distort it or to trick people into focusing in all the wrong places. We must constantly be on the watch-out for even the slightest slant or deviation from the truth, because the battle is constantly waging on. In our minds. In our beliefs. In our hearts.
Why must we be careful? Because the distorted version is very very very similar to the truth. If we do not pay attention for even one second, we may fall into the trap of a distorted truth. It is important that we are constantly grounded in the Truth and Word of God because God is totally, completely and 100% beyond a shadow of doubt, TRUE. In God, He cannot tolerate even a 1% deviation. In God, everything must be what God say it is. Nothing more. Nothing less.
This is hard to shallow for some. Yet, it is the Truth that will set us free.
The bible says that we cannot add one word or take away anything from the holy scriptures. The bible is the truth by which we live our lives. It is the principle and standards that we abide to.
And one thing we need to remember. Never major on the minor or minor on the major. Some things are uncompromisable, like cell group, service, no idol worshipping, no eating of blood, no blasphemies against God... And there are certain things that exist forever but still have no effect on our salvation or relationship with God, whatsoever.
But so often, human beings like to focus their attention on things that are of less importance. The devil tries to trick us into majoring on things that have no effect on our service and love unto God. For example.. Focusing our attention on seeking approval from man for the things we do. Does man's approval add or deduct anything from the service we render to God? In everything, we do it unto God, right? True, we draw a salary and therefore should give our best. But at the end of the day, we don't live for that recognition or approval from God. We do it for God.
Some serve and serve and serve all day long, and by the time they get home, they are too tired to even sing a love song to God or read His Word. What is this? Majoring on the minor and minoring on the major.
There are yet others who live forever in a failed mission or some failures that happened donkey years ago, and refuse to move forward or believe that anything good can ever happen in their lives anymore. Refusing to look to the future that God has prepared for us. What is this? Majoring on the minor and minoring on the major.
Some people focus on the ritual and the format of doing something and overlook the real reason and essence of doing it in the first place. What is this? Majoring on the minor and minoring on the major.
At the end of the day, what is important to God should be important to us. Just like what is important to my pastor should be important to me. And if I don't even know what is important to God, what use is my service to God? Beneath my service should be a deep and grounded understanding of who is the God I am serving.
And I am not just talking about serving God in church. It refers to everything we do in the marketplace we are in. We represent Jesus in the place we are in. Everything we do is under close scrutiny of everyone. Those who are for and those who are against us. Everyone.
Majoring on the minor and minoring on the major is one of the tricks in the bag of the devil. Don't fall into it because it will distract us from doing what we ought to do.
