From rags to riches
Robin Harfouche is back in Singapore to shaare her life testimony. I like Rev Robin because her life is like a movie in itself, full of twists & turns, and yet so real that we cannot deny it. Her story always brings about a melting of hearts during the service and many people will respond to the altar call when they see how real God is in her life.
She was sharing her testimony at services 2, 5 and 6 this weekend. And I heard that she broke down during service 5 when she was sharing her story that she could not go on preaching anymore. It made me wonder, why would someone like her who might have shared her story thousands of times worldwide still break down & cry? The only answer I can find is because the grace and love of God is so strong and real that we can never become immune to it. It just touches our heart each time we think about it. There is no way we can ever become so used to telling the story that we just become an emotionless storyteller.
Her story is one of hope and second chances. She was sexually violated for 10 years from 3 to 13 years old, by a close family relative. When she ran away from home at 13 years old, she was trying to escape from all the shame and fears. She eventually became a hollywood dancer who indulged in a lifestyle of drugs and vices. She shared about how some people would tell her she would go to hell if she doesn't believe in Jesus and repent of her ways, and she didn't care a single bit. Her life only changed when she got involved in a terrible car accident and she broke her bones and became half-paralysed.
Things took a turn when she decided, on her wheelchair, that she was going to go to church. Her friend was supposed to pick her up, but in the end could not make it. Nevertheless, she decided that she would drive to church herself. It was amazing how a half-paralysed person could even think of doing that! But she managed to drag and pull herself across the floor of her home, got into her car and drove all the way to church. The rest was history.
Rev Robin could be living a life that was glamourous and luxurious to many people. Afterall, Hollywood people have it all, don't they?? Fame. Money. Attention. But many of these people were empty inside, and they needed someone to tell them why they are living on this earth. Why is it that they can never seem to be filled even with lots of money coming in every month?
And this made me appreciate what Sun is doing, even more. Even as she is breaking forth in the music world and making a difference in the lives of people in the world, she is creating a pathway to these hollywood stars who need to hear about Jesus. She has become an access point to these people who may feel that church is never the place for them. I think Sun is on an important mission. And I want to keep praying for her that she will continue to bring about a positive influence in this world. Yes, even in this place, I believe God has His wonderful plans to bring about salvation.
