Love Your Life . Love Yourself

Dr Joyce Meyer is in town this weekend to preach. The last time she came to preach in CHC was 10 years ago, so obviously I wasn't in CHC yet. I've only seen her books in bookstores before, and I noticed she's an expert in emotional issues and issues pertaining to females. I was anticipating her message when I finally get to hear her in person.

Like how she described herself, she appears to be someone who's very driven, confident & domineering. Not domineering in the bad sense, but someone with authority. I like the way she preaches - so full of faith & assurance. Every word she spoke was powerful & hits hard on the truth.

She talked about something which really put right the foundation upon which we can kick start this brand new year - to love your life & yourself.

Something she said was so powerful and hit me hard. The bible says 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' It's not exactly saying that we should love our neighbours to the extent that we love ourselves. But rather, it tells us that there is no way we can love others without first loving ourselves. There is no way we can truly love other people if we first have a problem loving who we really are.

It is so easy to feel condemned & unworthy if we keep looking at our shortcomings & what we CANNOT do. Just one word from someone around us can knock every cow sense and what little bravery & faith in ourselves out of the way. Yet, have we ever thought about it this way? Doesn't God already know what we are like before He chose us for what He has called us to do? Are we saying that God made a mistake because He failed to see that flaw in us before?? Certainly not!

Even the wrong word we are going to say tomorrow, God already knows. Yet, He still purposefully chose us for His purpose. Isn't that amazing? What a wonderful God we serve. He chose me inspite of my many faults & weaknesses. When I think about that, I want to live my life passionately & fulfill my calling & destiny with every strength I can muster. Simply because my God believes & knows I can do it.

Little things are important to our success in life. That's very very true. Sometimes we think if we can do something great & significant, we would have made it in life. Yet, that is not true because it is often the little things that we do, or do not do that differentiates us from the rest of the mediocre crowd.

If we like to whine about our current position, about why we are doing such small things and nothing seemingly significant in the kingdom of God, our promotion may never come. Dr Joyce shared that if we are not happy where we are right now, we will also never be happy even if God promotes us to another level. Because passion & happiness is not related to what we are doing or how high up we climb, but rather, a state of mind. A decision. A commitment. Afterall, if God wants to promote us, He knows where to find us. Don't we waste time worrying about it, and trying desperately to make it easier for God to find us. Ha.

Love our life. Live it passionately.
Only when we can love ourselves, we can love other people fully.
May 2006 be a year when we can discover what love can do. : )
