The Pre-Holiday Syndrome

Do you know there is such a thing as a pre-holiday syndrome? :)

Isaiah and I are planning a trip to Hong Kong in Oct for 4 days. And the pre-holiday syndrome started the moment we decided to go on the trip. Haha!

U haven't heard of the syndrome before? Let me share with you some characteristics...

1) You feel like you are walking on clouds all the time
Well, that happens when you are happy, and you are happy if you have a holiday waiting for you!!! Whenever you meet a challenge at work, you think of what's waiting for you, and you instantly feel more motivated! Works faster than a magic pill! =D

2) All of a sudden, 3 months feel like it's going to take 3 years to come.
The waiting time is both sweet and bitter at the same time. While I wish Oct will come faster, I also enjoy immersing myself in the anticipation mood. Waiting for a holiday to come is such an enjoyable process. =) Still, October feels like such a long way.....

3) Whenever you see something you want to buy, you tell yourself, 'Don't buy now. Buy it in XXX (in my case, it's Hong Kong)
How very true for my case at least! Now whenever I go shopping and see a bag or a dress that I like, I would tell myself not to spend the money cos I might see something nicer in Hong Kong! How's that for some short term savings???! Haha!

4) There is a word related to the country you are visiting, in every 10 words you speak.
Seriously, this is really beyond control. You feel like telling everybody you meet that you are going on a holiday! You wanna tell your boss, your friends, your colleagues and even the pantry lady that you are INDEED going on a holiday very soon! Though it doesn't feel that soon (See point 2)! Before you can stop yourself, you are going on and on about where you can do there, how much fun you will be having, and how much you are looking forward to the trip.

5) Wherever you go, you think of that country you are flying to.
When you are in a library, you look for travel guides on that country. When you are in a bookshop, you look for travel guides on that country. When you are online, you search for info on that country and attempt to put together 101 different itineries. When you pass by a luggage shop, you peek in and ask yourself for the 500th time whether you should be getting a new luggage bag. When you meet your friends, you ask about that country and its weather and currency. It's machiam like your whole spirit, soul and body is indulged in that whole waiting-for-holiday mood.

Warning: The pre-holiday syndrome can be rather serious & destructive. If you are not careful, the productivity for that few months may drop to the rock bottom. Therefore, take specific and conscious effort to perk yourself up. Work hard now so that you can play hard later!

Can you see I am trying hard to preach to myself? =D
