Halloween @ Night Safari!
I admit I have always been a scaredy cat.
And so, when I received an email from omy.sg, inviting bloggers to experience The Return of Halloween Horrors at Night Safari, I jumped at the chance! It was time to confront the cat in me. Plus, I haven’t been to the Night Safari before. And a Halloween theme sounds really cool.
So, on 10 Oct (Sat), Isaiah and I went excitedly for our 1st Halloween experience! We had loads of fun! =D Every staff in Night Safari was made up, from the reception counter & ticketing staff, to the traffic marshals, tram commentators, etc. Most were bloody looking, or dressed & made up in some gruesome sad characters. It was one fine sight. =P
Upon reaching the Night Safari entrance area (there was a huge stretch of area before we reach the real entrance), and already, it was bursting with activities and lots of people! There were scary and not-so-scary characters walking around. Some were scaring people, some were joking around, but everyone would take photos with you if you asked them (no guarantee that they won’t suddenly jump at you though!)
Well, I forgot to mention that I took a big risk to bring Baby Jayne along, as I couldn’t find someone to take care of her. In any case, she was too young to be scared by the different characters, no matter how gruesome they looked.
We also saw some tourists there who made efforts to dress up for the Halloween theme! This was one family who went as scary prisoners and witches!
Some monster who aspired to strangle with his white chains.
This lady selling dim sum looked rather innocent except for her super-white face and red eye patches.
Close-up, she looked rather scary though. =P Told you I was a scaredy cat.
Viola! There was a head hiding below one of the baskets! Those who did not know and try to pose by lifting those baskets, the head will pop out all of a sudden & scare them! Poor guy got to hide inside there the whole night! Haha!
Then I found poor Cinderella roaming the streets aimlessly… She got killed by her glass slippers (Hint: It’s now stuck in her forehead.)
Possibly the only happy character roaming around – the Tin Tin man! He was very mischievous though. He would sneak silently behind someone, then wait for that person to suddenly discover him standing very near and get a shock of his life! Then he would double up in laughter before scrambling away. Neat.
Some hideous-looking jester.
Emily!!!! (I thought she did a really good job at imitating Emily because she had that empty look in her eyes…)
And all those amazing characters were at the area BEFORE we even entered the Night Safari! Cool or what??!!
Upon entering the Night Safari, we immediately went to queue up for the Tram of Horrors. It was a special-themed tram ride, modified from the usual Night Safari tram ride. The difference was that the tram had a commentator who spoke in a weird tone that sounded like a witch. During the journey, she said things like, ‘Do… not… use… flash lights…. or… I.. will… have.. to… KILL… you..’ Haha. Funny.
The first part of the tram ride was the typical tram ride through the Night Safari where we saw the different animals and the commentator explained to us the origins, their habits & characteristics, etc. I kept imagining that some monsters would suddenly jump out of the bushes on both sides of the tram track to scare us, but none of those happened. Instead, the ‘horror’ officially happened when the usual tour route was covered and the tram entered a super dark alley. It was here where all the excitement begun!!!
On both sides of the tram, scary characters and monsters would suddenly appear, making everyone on the tram S-C-R-E-A-M at the top of their voices! I guess that was the fun part! Even though we all knew it was fake, everyone just joined in the screaming for the fun of it!
This woman appeared out of nowhere all of a sudden and started smiling at us on the tram!!!!
I think mummies are naturally scary looking. Especially mummies who tried chasing after us..
Hanging bloody heads & body parts were common sight in the Night Safari.
The Cinderella story that went all wrong.
The distraught bloody woman who came stumbling out of the graveyard and tried to approach the tram while we scurried away!
Some of the scary characters would appear out of nowhere and tugged at the hands of those seated on the tram. I mean, how wouldn’t scream at that??!!! Especially if that thing was carrying his head in his hands..
Complete with sound effects, I have to admit that most were quite scary. But there were also some that were quite funny. The funniest one I thought was a scene of a butcher chopping up fish, except that the fish being chopped was actually a mermaid! And the mermaid was screaming and screeching, ‘Help me! Save me!"’ haha, I thought that was really funny.
I sighed a heave of relief when the tram ride came to an end. It was a little too much for my heart. I kept fearing that something was going to jump out from somewhere!! No wonder, there was a warning that the ride was not for the faint-hearted.
And then we met this red-haired man.
If you think he looked like a clown, you are greatly deceived. He was super hostile and went around chasing people with a chopper!!! Needless to say, we walked away as fast as we could after snapping this photo of him.
After the tram ride, we went on the Forest Giants Trail. It was a trail, which meant we had to walk through it, and I was apprehensive because I was paranoid that some monster would come out of nowhere and grab my hand and refuse to let go!!! Thankfully, nothing of that sort happened. *phew*
We did, however, meet some scary giants and characters along the trail. Some were hiding silently in the bushes, and scared people by suddenly roaring or jumping into their paths. Like these here:
Yes, I survived!!!!
I think it was one great Halloween party! There were some elements of horror, but I feel that the fun far outweighs the scary parts. Plus, the whole atmosphere was just pumped up by excited people. Approximately every 15 seconds, you would hear a scream somewhere. It was unlike anything I’ve attended before, and I think it was a very refreshing change!
Thumbs up for Night Safari & of course, thank you omy.sg for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this experience! =D

With all these characters.... did you guys even manage to catch any animals? :P
She actually was sleeping throughout the tram ride and got woken by some screaming towards the end, that's all. But it was during the Giants' Trail, she got a shock when someone behind us let out a scream. Needless to say, she bursted out into tears and I made a super quick exit after that. Haha! But all in all, it was still alrighht. Toddlers below 5 years old probably not very suitable though, cos we saw many toddlers who were crying becos of the scary characters! Jayne merely stared at the bloody faces expressionless.. =P
Must get them to invite me for the next one as well :)
I thot about going la, but the last time Jay went to Night Safari, he HATED the tram ride. He s-c-r-e-a-m-e-d from boarding to alighting :P Hahaha!
