My 1st Icing Experience!
A BIG THANKS to omy for giving me the opportunity to be part of a meaningful event last Thursday. I had a most fun time icing and decorating my own log cake! =D
This cake decoration competition is organized by BreadTalk’s newest, snazzy specialty cake shop addition, Icing Room. As part of their community contribution for the Christmas season, they will duplicate 15 cakes of the top prize winning design and distribute them to a charity organization of the winner’s choice. Meaningful, isn’t it? Christmas is all about giving and bringing joy and hope to the less fortunate. I am so honored to be one of the 3 bloggers invited to be a part of this charity drive!
We went to The Icing Room located at Jurong Point. The whole shop has such a Princessy feel, don’t you think?
It’s basically a shop that sells pretty cakes & cookies, and also a place where you can decorate your own cakes to personalize them. I was just in awe of all the pretty things they have. It just makes the Christmas spirit jump right out!
AND ARE YOU READY FOR THIS????
This is the chocolate log cake I will be working on!!
What we are given to decorate the cake..
Because all 3 bloggers have never done anything like this in our entire lives before, the chef did a demonstration for us.
She did it amazingly fast (not surprising since she does this for a living!) and finished the whole cake in no more than 5 mins!
It’s my turn!!!!! Gosh, so nervous!
It was not as easy as it seems. The cream and icing comes out in amounts totally unexpected. I get big blotches that totally destroyed my original design and I had to make many emergency rescues. Haha!
And it’s nerve-wreaking because everyone is staring at you making a mess out of the originally-lovely cake, and a camera shooting you from every angle.
It’s almost done, can you see??!
And VIOLA!
My other 2 blogger friends!
Finally all 3 of us are done with our designs!!! Gorgeous for a first-try, don’t you agree??? =D
Mine! The main theme is ‘Things in the sky’. Haha! You will find stars, clouds, rainbow, snow and of course, the Christmas tree. =P
And finally, we ended with an interview in Mandarin! Hahaha.. We shared our views about the meaning of the competition, which charity organisation we would like to help, and how we would spread the spirit of Christmas!
I really enjoyed myself at the event. It was an interesting experience, not just decorating the cake, but also in filming for a publicity video! We had to follow the instructions of the cameraman to do certain poses, actions, and some of them are really hilarious! I think when the video gets uploaded on the website, we will laugh ourselves silly! What’s more important though, was the meaning behind the whole event – and that is to bring love and joy to the less fortunate. We, too, can be a blessing to someone this Christmas!
Thank you once again, omy and The Icing House! :)
