My Recent Malacca Trip
Of late, old things have been appealing to me. I mean, I’ve always had a love for retro stuffs, old-fashioned back-to-the-sixties look, but recently, I realised that whenever I see such things, they perk me up like eye-candy!
And so, I had a very enjoyable trip to Malacca last weekend. It was tiring because we lugged our two kids everywhere we went for that whole 3-day-2-night, and at night, all 4 of us would lie on the gigantic hotel bed and lights out by 11pm. Hubby & I pretended to sleep of course. We woke up for TV & supper after the kids were deep asleep. Ha! On the 1st night, we ordered Room Service, but 2nd night, hubby walked out to buy satay, fried ngoh hiang from nearby makeshift mamak stall. Yums! It was all nice. Especially in a very charming ancient city like Malacca. =)
On our first night, we stayed at Hotel Renaissance Malacca, a four-star hotel which was luxurious and nice, with good customer service. It was a blessing by our friend who gave us a voucher for a free one-night stay. Then we decided to extend our trip by another night when we reached there, cos there was just too much to cover, and we shifted to Hotel Emperor, a more budget-range hotel, which was spacious and comfortable too. The price was barely half of that of the first hotel.
This was taken at Hotel Renaissance. Baby Jayne kept going to the windows to see the really nice view outside.
The huge windows allowed us to see the whole of Malacca City from the hotel room.
This is what the room looks like (after we messed it up obviously). Pretty spacious with even a sofa at the TV area. The moment we stepped into the room, the baby cot for Jayne was already inside. Good service. =)
Finding a hotel to stay in Malacca is not difficult at all. It is a city that survives primarily on tourism. Almost every trade and shop exist in that place because of tourists. And so, you can find a hotel every 10 steps away!
On our first night at Malacca, we met up with our friends for dinner at the renowned Nonya restaurant – Oleh Sayang. The Nonya food was heavenly!!!!!
Love tainted glass panels! So symbolic of Nonya culture. =)
You’ve really got to try this restaurant if you go to Malacca. Apparently, even the locals patronize it for its authentic Nonya dishes. It’s situated near to the Mega Mall where Carrefore is. A green building. =)
The whole restaurant was packed, packed, packed! And they don’t accept reservations! You can jolly well go early and hope to get a table. My nanny whom I was very close to was a Nonya, and I grew up eating her Nonya delicacies. Nonya cuisines have a special significance to me. =)
Standing outside along the road after dinner. Still full of cars everywhere.
Everywhere we went in Malacca, I was snapping away, because everything was beautiful!
Our friends were in Malacca during the same time to take their wedding photos, and apparently this was one of their sites for the shoot. =) Can’t wait to see their beautiful photos.
If you’re looking for a holiday destination that allows you to do lots of shopping and sight-seeing, then perhaps Malacca is not the right place for you. But if you’re looking at enriching your heritage appreciation and rejuvenating your soul in a place that’s still pretty much preserved, Malacca is just perfect! =)
