Bali: Bubba Gum Shrimp Co

When I was in Bali recently for a family vacation, I visited an interesting restaurant located along the streets of Kuta called Bubba Gum Seafood Co.

Bubba Gum is a theme restaurant based on the all-time favourite movie: Forrest Gump! When I stepped into the restaurant, I was intrigued by everything inside! First of all, the decor was nice and everywhere, you could see the paraphernalia of the movie. Let me bring you around the restaurant. =)

The restaurant feels like one huge hut with wooden panelled walls. Lots of framed pictures hung from it, creating a retro feel to the whole place.

Forrest Gump’s wedding scene out of the movie. =)

The restaurant has two sections for dining – One is an alfresco dining with large fans blowing, while the other section is an air-conditioned area. As Jayne was napping, we sat in the air-conditioned area. It was nice, with zinc roofs as you can see from the photo below. There was also a TV playing the Forrest Gump movie on loop, except that they ‘changed’ the whole movie by adding in their own subtitles. It was kinda hilarious. The whole movie became an advertisement for the restaurant, with Forrest Gump telling his mother, his girlfriend and all his friends how awesome Bubba Gump restaurant is. =.= Lame but pretty entertaining actually. =P

The mascot of the restaurant. I suspect he’s a shrimp.

At every table, there’s a standee like this. The waitress explained to us that if everything was great, we can leave it as ‘Run Forrest Run’. But if we need any assistance at all, we can change it to…

IMG_0857

‘Stop Forrest Stop’ and they will come running to us!

Every kid also received an activity sheet and a box of crayons.

Obviously not very happy Mummy disturbed her colouring. =.=

There is also a shop inside the restaurant selling T-shirts, caps and all kinds of souvenirs from the restaurant. They’re not expensive, cheaper than Hard Rock cafe etc, and look really quite nice.

Little tag souvenirs we could bring home with us..

During the time we were there, we saw 3 birthday celebrations, which was cool. If you have a birthday person in your group, just need to inform the staff and they will come out in one big ging gang to sing Happy Birthday song for you, complete with woks and pans no less. It was definitely rowdy and very fun for the birthday person, but I was not as excited cos my baby was napping. Haha! But great place to celebrate birthdays for sure. :)

The menu contained mainly seafood dishes. Lots of prawns, crabs etc. Not super fantastic food in my opinion, but I guess the ambience makes up for it. This drink was very refreshing though.

Ordered fried prawns and fries off the kids’ menu for Joey..

It came served in a paper boat. =)

Our food was very cheesy and seafoody. =P
