Is there Fear of the Lord?

Who is God to you? Is He a very gracious and kind God who finds every opportunity to bless? Or is he a God who will answer your prayers when you call on Him? Or is He a God who will show you revelations and solutions just at the moment you need them?

Yes, God is all of those. But God is a also a God that we should fear. Our God is Almighty and Sovereign. He is God. Not like anyone of us. But do we always remember that He is God and we are only His creation?

I'm not promoting low self esteem here. Just that I find many of us forget just how great our God is sometimes. He is a friend to us, and we tell him our every need unhesitantly. He is the Saviour who saves. So much so that we forget to honour Him as our God at times.

The Fear of the Lord should always reside in our hearts. This fear does not prevent us from drawing near to God, of course. What it does is to put a certain caution that in whatever we do, we do not want to incur the wrath of God. True, our God is a fatherly God. But when it comes to impure things or things that do not please Him, He will not hesitate to show His wrath and anger.

Do not even attempt to think that we can test God's wrath. If we do that, we are only seeking death and punishment. If the bible already says that God hates certain things, you better be sure you have no fair share in any of those things.

What is the Fear of the Lord?

It is knowing that our God hates sins and that we would never want to do anything to anger Him. It is the understanding that our God is an Almighty God and if He says 'don't do it', we better don't do it.

If God hates fornication and adultery, and I have the fear of the Lord, I will not do it. Because doing it will only tell God one thing - that I am not afraid of Him and His laws.

How foolish can that get? Do we reckon we can ever run away from God? Or worse still, do something wrong, and think naively that we don't have to bear any consequences?

We don't do alot of things like murder, stealing, coveting, lying... because morally, we feel it's wrong. How about a paradigm shift today? Can it be that we don't do such things because we Fear the Lord? Because God hates it, I don't do it??

People are stiff-necked creatures. Even though God says don't do it, we still go ahead & do it. Engaging in such acts that do not please God, such as fornication, adultery, being with a non-Christian boyfriend or girlfriend... all these incur the wrath of God. Sure, you don't see a ball of fire come down on you this instance, but you can be sure God is a fair God and he rewards and punishes.

Incase you are thinking what a scary God our God is now, I am not saying that at all. But if you think you can be casual with God and get away with doing things He already tells us not to do in the bible, then you should be rightfully afraid. Repent now, turn away from those actions and God will forgive you.

Let the fear of the Lord reside in our hearts and guard it.
