Who Understands?

The recent general election gave me some revelations about my greatest leader, Jesus.

Everytime during the GE campaigning period, we will see all the politicians running for elections going around to meet the people, shake hands with them, ask about their well-being and giving promises that a good life is ahead if they vote for them.

The politician for my constituency even went door to door to shake hand with every resident in every block and Isaiah happened to have the fortune to shake his hand for a precious 2 seconds before he whisked off to the next door. Can't really blame him for not lingering since he's got thousands of doors to visit and another thousands of hands to shake. At the end of the day, his facial muscles probably hurts.

Politicians, no matter where they go or which area they represent, will always want to portray the image that they have come down to the level of the residents to meet their every need, or at the very least, they are showing that they have made the effort to bring themselves to the level of the grassroots and average Singaporeans. Yet, the truth is that they are never truly really at that level that they understand everything the people go through. How to expect a high-flying politician to really understand fully the life of an old folk who struggles to even put bread on his table everyday? At best, he can only imagine.

We human beings like to say that nobody understands what we are going through. Enough of this kind of self-pity mentality, I would say. Snap out! The truth is even if there is really not a single soul who can understand, JESUS CAN.

Unlike politicians who try their best to understand the needs of the commoner, Jesus understands because he's been through it himself. He knows the tiredness and difficulties of keeping a career going - he was a carpenter for a large part of his life. He knows the demands of being a filial child - he had to serve & obey his earthly parents like anyone of us. He knows how it feels to be rejected - the moment he stepped into his ministry, rejections and oppositions were everyday fare. He knows what it means to be betrayed by someone he loved - do I even need to elaborate further? I think you get the point.

The truth is that we do have someone who loves us beyond measure. We do have someone who always understands without fail. We do have a God who will never desert us or forsake us. We do have Jesus who will never let us be tested beyond what we cannot bear. He is such a God because He's been through it before like anyone of us. If not, much more.

The next time you want to say that no one understands you, add two more words to the sentence, "..like Jesus."
